The big day is finally just around the corner. If you are like me, you will have been preparing your kitchen for Christmas since August. Slowly increasing the size of the Sunday roast each week to confirm you can handle the turkey on the big day. As we reach the final hurdles we thought we should reach out and share our tips for any last minute preparations to make sure your kitchen is ready to cook up a storm.
Organise your storage spaces
The first step to prepare your kitchen for Christmas is organising your storage spaces. Raid your fridge and use up any fresh produce you have to make room for the Christmas dinner ingredients. Similarly, sort through your cupboards, removing anything that might be expired or wasted. You can also think about donating spare tins and non-perishables to your local food bank. Not only will this free up some much needed space you can also help those in need! After all – it is the season of giving.
Clear your countertops/prepare your accessories
Crowded countertops make a kitchen feel homely. Cookbooks, fruit bowls and coffee jars all adorn my own kitchen countertop. But when it gets to Christmas, these all take up some well needed space.
Take some time a few days before the big day to free up as much space as you can. You can even start preparing where to put all of your Christmas dinner cooking accessories to really get a sense of how much space you will have!
Clean your oven
Cleaning your oven for Christmas is a great way to make the preparation and cooking a little more enjoyable and give you a little more confidence in your kitchen if you’re entertaining guests on the big day. A clean oven is more efficient, creates less smoke and burning, allows the smell of your delicious dinner to waft out, filling the house with the mouth-watering scent of turkey and roast veg!
It’s an investment that will pay itself back over and over as Christmas approaches – with a clean oven, the time you spend in the kitchen will be far less stressful and more relaxed, allowing you to enjoy your day that little bit more.
Make a schedule
Even the best chefs fall behind now and then, so we would suggest making a schedule of what needs to be cooked and how long it’s going to take. Having this on hand will take a lot of stress off and keep you on track to a successful Christmas dinner
Just don’t forget to pencil in some time for mulled wine tasting!
One final thing to remember
With all of that in mind, there is one very, very important thing to remember when preparing your Christmas dinner this year: enjoy yourself. Whilst everyone around you is having a great time, don’t let the stress of preparing dinner ruin your day. Take some time to breathe, relax and remember; it only comes once a year.
