National BBQ Week Northern Ireland

Have you ever heard about National BBQ Week? It is one of the top 5 awareness weeks across the whole of the UK! Running between 30th May and 5th June, National BBQ Week has not only helped change all of our attitudes towards BBQ and summer eating. It’s also helped grow the BBQ market from just 9 million BBQ occasions back then to around 135 million in 2019!  Here at Torbitts Ltd, we love BBQ season! Summer BBQ Recipes

There is more to BBQ’s than just your standard hotdogs and burgers. Whether you are hosting a BBQ from your city home in Belfast or your country home in Ballymena, we have you covered with some fun BBQ recipes:

-Korean chilli, Sesame & Honey Chicken

A kebab always goes down well at a BBQ, and this Korean chicken with sweet, spicy and sticky glaze is our new favourite. Scatter over spring onions to serve.

-Pineapple & pork skewers

Kids will love these pork, pineapple and green pepper skewers, marinated for added flavour and cooked on the barbecue. Serve with rice or in pitta bread.

-Chicken shish kebabs

These barbecued kebabs are big on flavour, but the spice is toned down, so they’re great for kids. Offer some chilli sauce on the side for those who like heat, and serve with flatbread.

-BBQ chicken drummers with green goddess salad

Enjoy our sweet and sticky barbecue chicken drummers. Super healthy, serve with our green salad and jacket potatoes to get four of your 5-a-day.

How to look after your BBQ

There is no point celebrating National BBQ Week if your BBQ is in poor condition. It is worth giving your BBQ grills a basic clean after each use and a deep clean every three months. You’ll want to clean it without damaging the paint or metal surfaces which can allow rust to start forming.

-Clean the greasy Grill before use

Although a seemingly obvious thing to do, you would be surprised how many people forget to wash their BBQ Grill before they use it. The most effective method for cleaning BBQ Grills before each use is to use some heat, a scraper, and a good quality, stainless steel brush.

-Clean the cavity of the BBQ

In order to clean the cavity of your BBQ, first remove big deposits of food particles or grease and then clean the inside with warm, soapy water and a sponge. This will provide a thorough clean. After this, rinse and dry with a cloth. Using a flat metal tool, such as a putty knife or a paint scraper, to remove large grease deposits.

-Protect your barbecue from the Northern Ireland weather

Rust usually starts because the metal surfaces of a BBQ get damaged and then damp. So the ideal place to store your BBQ is in a shed or garage, away from rain, frost and freezing temperatures. Otherwise it’s wise to invest in a BBQ cover, which will cost from £15 to £60. Look for a cover that fits well and is easy to put on and take off. Covers have a habit of blowing off in strong winds, so look for one that has strong ties to attach it to the frame or use a rope to tie it on.
