brighten up your kitchen

With the evenings getting darker, we are looking to help you find ways to brighten up your kitchen. Your kitchen is the hub of your home, the space where you entertain guests and cook meals for your friends and family. It is difficult to entertain and cook in a dark, drab room. Here at Torbitts Ltd, with years of industry experience, we know exactly how to add that bit of extra light to your kitchen.

Add a Mirror

Using mirrors is a great way to make any space appear lighter and bigger. Mirrors amplify light around a room. They could be integrated into the backsplash of your kitchen. This would help add light to any dark spots in your kitchen. Another tip is to place the mirror in your kitchen directly across from a window to easily bounce the maximum natural light around the room.

Swap for Brighter Bulb Solutions

This is probably the most obvious solution. Check the wattage on the lightbulbs you’re currently using. If they’re 60 watts or below, they’re not bright enough. Experts recommend at least 80 to 100 watts in your kitchen. Additionally, if your fixture can handle it, consider swapping your traditional bulbs for LED ones. LED bulbs are brighter because they offer more lumens for the same number of watts as other types of light bulb.

Under Cabinet Lights

Under Cabinet lighting is an easy way to light up dark corners underneath your cabinets. This type of lighting provides a bright, focused light which doesn’t cast shadows, perfect for performing tasks such as chopping up vegetables. If possible, use LED lighting when installing under cabinet lights as it is energy sufficient and barely needs replacing.

Add a ‘pop’ of colour to your cabinets

Refresh dark wooden cabinets with a coat of bright white paint, for an easy fix that will instantly change the tired tone of your kitchen. If you want to be even more extravagant, why not even go for a bright blue, orange or even pink? The options are endless. Don’t forget to create contrast to balance out your kitchen look and fully enhance the light in your kitchen.

Bring the light off the ceiling with pendant lights

Fill your kitchen with light by bringing fixtures down off the ceiling, with pendant lights or even an upcycled chandelier. Bringing the light closer to your workspace is a practical way to enhance your countertop and fully illuminate the space.

We love helping our clients add extra light and detail to their kitchen spaces. The difference between something good and something great is attention to detail.
