At Torbitts we have a wealth of experience of redesigning kitchens. We’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly throughout our many years in the industry. That’s why we want to make sure our customers make all the right decisions when it comes to their dream kitchen.

Here’s the list of what not to do when thinking of your redesign:

  • Never underestimate the amount of storage you need

The perfect kitchen has the right balance between cabinetry and open space. Not planning your storage correctly could lead to added clutter in your kitchen and restrict your ability to add some fun extras. The key to getting the most out of your storage space is thinking of clever ways to integrate storage into existing kitchen essentials. Designed to easily fit into the cabinets, pull out storage helps efficiently store away items and make them easy to access when needed.

  • Don’t forget about Ventilation

A kitchen that is regularly being used for cooking big meals needs good ventilation. It can make or break your kitchen. Cooking, especially on the hob, can leave lingering smells that if not ventilated can drift throughout your home. Don’t get us wrong, the smell of a freshly home cooked meal is lovely, but you don’t want it lingering throughout the whole house.

  • Don’t overlook Waste Disposal:

Although a very obvious appliance in a kitchen, bins are often overlooked. They aren’t the most glamorous part of the kitchen redesign but they are one of the most important elements. Given waste is unavoidable, it should be factored in as a priority. Even more important now given the requirements to separate our rubbish into general, recyclable and food waste. There are many ways to have hidden waste disposal solutions in your kitchen such as, within pull out cupboards. This will definitely be attractive to the minimalistic customer.

  • Don’t rush the planning of your Lighting

Lighting is important for the functionality of the kitchen and the aesthetics. Placing lighting in the wrong place or making the lighting too dim can have a major impact on the overall finish of the kitchen. Flexible lighting control systems are very popular instead of the traditional on/off switch. These systems can create mood lighting in relaxing zones which add a subtle form of illumination. Lighting underneath kitchen cabinets is also worth looking into. These lights replace the base of the wall cabinets and provide light inside and below the cabinet and use motion control to switch on and off.

Here at Torbitt we are here to ensure you stay well away from all these mistakes! Contact us today if you have any enquiries.
